BA7 Description of flag design
So for this week i am going to try and design the flags throughout the level. Below are the descriptions of the areas that need to be completed with an effective cloth design.
Reference Material (symbols)
Here is a range of reference material that is primarily looking at symbols that will be used throughout the design. I only really need three of the flag/cloth effects to be using these symbols yet i would like to design a range of flags and use my favorite and keep the other assets for future projects.
Making the body
I have designing the basic structure for the lich body and have imported it into Unreal successfully. Materials will be added to this base throughout the week. Four textures will be needed to add to this asset.
Wind Effects On textures
First i wanted to make sure that the effects that i placed onto my assets would show a slight motion within the game to do this i created my own textures in the Unreal engine and altered it in the attribute editor of Unreal.
Results:
Good:
- Works
- Provides a unique moving texture
- Once made easily changes colour for different textures
- Use of different normals and heights change the effect of the movement
- Will be useful when making flags
Bad:
- As the mesh itself is still static the illusion is broken slightly as the bottoms don't move with the mesh when making the lich bodies.
- Hard to get a seamless running texture for it and will require consideration when adding that to flag design
Reference material Cloth Effects
I am splitting this set of Reference material for designing the moving cloth effect and the color and texture type i want to use. throughout the scene the first section are the images that will be used to help design the flutter effects for unreal. Like the video above.
The next set of reference materials are for helping come up with the colour scene for the flag and sail design.
Flag Test
I wanted to first run through how i was going to make the flag designs for the christian area of the level. Below are a few extracts from the design of these flags.
